The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce has a special program this holiday season.
It’s time for Secret Santa, as Chamber President and CEO Jeanine McKenna explained on KVOE’s Morning Show this week.
The Chamber’s Secret Santa program begins Saturday and goes until it’s done. The Chamber is poised to start giving some clues if the Secret Santas remain hidden for an extended period of time. McKenna says no Chamber staff are included in the Secret Santa list.
Meanwhile, the Chamber is in the final planning stages for its 46th annual Christmas Parade, which will start at 7 pm at Fourth and Commercial and will move north to 12th. Nearly 90 parade entries are signed up.
Activities begin shortly after 6 pm in front of the Trusler Business Center, 719 Commercial, with a dedication and lighting ceremony. The Emporia High Chorale and Viva Voce will perform, with Victory Fellowship Pastor Mike Stubbs offering the Christmas message and Mayor Erren Harter lighting the Christmas tree. The parade will air on KVOE.com/TV.
The parade will mean several traffic adjustments:
*Northbound and southbound traffic on Commercial Street may be halted from Second to Sixth, based on traffic demand
*Traffic on Commercial from Sixth to 12th will be “suspended” from 6:30 pm until the end of the parade
*After 6:30 pm, no northbound, southbound or crossing traffic will be permitted on Commercial from Sixth to 12th.
