Parts of walls are left standing after a destructive house fire in Olpe on Saturday evening.
Fire was evident around 6:30 pm at 730 Kansas Highway 99, the one-time home of late Olpe Chicken House owners Leonard and Theresa Coble and now owned by Suzan Stroup-Reed, according to Lyon County records. Olpe firefighter Michael Nunley says fire was clearly visible when first crews arrived on scene.
Flames were through the entire house when KVOE News arrived on scene around 7 pm, and it took over two hours to get the fire under control.
Nobody was home. As of 9 pm, Olpe Fire was unable to confirm whether anybody was living at the residence. The home was on the market, with Zillow listing the price for the four-bed, four-bath, over 3,000-square-foot home at $675,500.
Olpe had help from Emporia, Lyon County Rural and Hartford-Neosho Rapids firefighters, as well as Lyon County deputies. Nunley and Olpe Fire Chief Wade Schmidt says an investigative team from the Office of Kansas State Fire Marshal will be on site by Sunday.
