The Emporia High basketball teams were swept by Spring Hill in the Paul Terry Classic Tuesday night at Spartan Gymnasium.
Spring Hill won the boys game, 46-40. Emporia High led by as many as four in the first but an 8-0 Spring Hill run made it 16-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Broncos extended the lead to 20-10 before Emporia High cut it to 24-20 at halftime. Spring Hill led by as many as 11 in the third quarter and held onto a 38-30 despite the Spartans pulling within four. Emporia High coach Lee Baldwin said the Spartans struggled to buy a basket.
Rylan Crowell led the Spartans with a career-high 15 points. Emporia High is now 1-1.
In the girls game, Spring Hill led from start to finish in a 52-18 victory over the Lady Spartans. Spring Hill led 20-4 after the first quarter and 35-10 at halftime. The Lady Broncos outscored the Lady Spartans 17-8 in the second half. Emporia High coach Taylor Scott said toughness was a difference in the game.
Bailey Wiltz led the way with seven points.
Emporia High is 0-2. Both teams will play Wichita Trinity on Friday at EHS with game times at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Hayden swept Trinity, 55-24 in the girls game and 62-47 in the boys game.
