Part of an Emporia street was blocked Tuesday night due to a broken water main. The street won’t reopen until later Wednesday.
Underground Utilities crews were alerted about a break in the 600 block of Congress around 4 pm, and Public Works Director Dean Grant says there were actually two breaks needing repairs. A pipe joint also began leaking, and that will be the focus of repairs Wednesday morning.
City Communications Manager Christine Torrens says this incident will cause low water pressure for the neighborhood, and that has been the case since the breaks were discovered. In addition to an unlisted number of homes, the breaks and leak impacted Mount Olive AME Church and Shiloh House Family Life Services on the north side of West Sixth, as well as Gene’s Quik Lube and the Humanitarian Center on the south side of Sixth.
