An area high school football coach has been selected to coach in the Kansas Shrine Bowl next summer.
Council Grove head football coach Butch Hayes will coach in the 2025 Kansas Shrine Bowl being held in Dodge City. It’ll be Hayes’ first appearance coaching in the Kansas Shrine Bowl. Hayes will be an assistant coach for the west team.
Hayes said in a statement from the Kansas Shrine Bowl, “It’s a great honor that is a reflection of my assistant coaches, players, and overall program that we are building at Council Grove.”
Hayes has a 74-67 overall record with stops in Ellis and Council Grove. Hayes led the Braves to the Class 2A sub-state championship game where they fell to 2A runner-up Nemaha Central, 21-6, finishing the season with an 8-4 record.
