Information designed to benefit workers displaced through the Holiday Resort and Tyson Foods closure announcements from last week have a new place to get the information they need.
The emporiaopportunity.com website has been updated to include a host of information about support services in the area. Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jeanine McKenna says the updates came together quickly.
Besides the regular drop-down menu items involving information about work, play, learn, entertainment, housing and Emporia facts, there is a special graphic for the support services with information about efforts through Flint Hills Technical College, Emporia State University, KansasWorks, CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness and the Kansas Department of Labor. Listed community partners also include:
*The United Way of the Flint Hills
*Salvation Army
*1-800-Children
*East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging
*Emporia State’s Law Early Admission Program
*Corner House
*Housing and Credit Counseling
*Kansas Children’s Service League
*Osage County Help House
*Emporia Child Care
*CPRF Equipment Fund
*Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland
*Kansas Legal Services
*Sacred Heart Child Care
Job fair information is also included, which leads into the unemployment benefits events Dec. 18-19 at the Bowyer Building. Those are strictly for Holiday Resort and Tyson employees. There is also a job and resource fair at the Lyon County Fairgrounds on Jan. 8.
This comes as all Holiday Resort residents have been placed elsewhere. It’s not immediately clear how many stayed local or within a 50-mile radius of Emporia. The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services says Mission Health, named last week as the temporary management, is now into its 30-day window overseeing operations. KDADS has not provided additional information.
