After over three decades in higher education, Dean of the Emporia State University School of Business Dr. Ed Bashaw made an announcement about his future during an interview with KVOE News Friday morning.
Bashaw’s 36-year career in higher education followed a near-decade career in sales and management that began after he graduated from Baylor. After obtaining his MBA, Bashaw served as a marketing professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock before assuming the role of dean at both Texas A&M-Texarkana and later Arkansas Tech.
Bashaw and his wife Sarah came to Emporia back in 2016 when he was named the new dean of the ESU School of Business. When asked why he has decided to retire at this time, Bashaw says there were several reasons including wanting to spend more time with family but ultimately summed it up by saying “When you know, you know.”
When asked what he sees as his greatest accomplishments throughout his tenure, Bashaw stated there were several wins for the school that stood out.
With that said, Bashaw believes the best accomplishment under his tenure was the relationships formed with students, staff and the community.
Plans for finding Bashaw’s replacement have yet to be announced, although Bashaw says he believes there will be a national search conducted to find his successor.
