The Salvation Army’s annual holiday bell-ringing campaign got a significant boost from weekend activities.
Bell-ringers were busy, especially at Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply and Walmart — where the annual Badges United and Emporia Lions Club partnerships took place.
Satyrdau[‘s effort included over $2,000 from Badges United, over $3,700 from the Lions Club and over $500 from other kettles across Emporia — meaning a rough total of over $6,300 once coinage is counted Monday. Capt. Mylie Hadden was relieved.
For Badges United, Emporia Fire was at Bluestem. Fire Chief Brandon Beck says this is a way to bring the community together.
At Walmart, Police Chief Ed Owens says it’s a good time for an event like this.
Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch says it’s an uplifting experience for all involved.
The Saturday activities follow Real Estate Wednesday, which had Farm and Home and Re/MAX Ek Real Estate ringing bells in a friendly competition. Over $1,700 was generated Wednesday.
The campaign goal this winter is $50,000, and the drive now stands at around $44,000. The drive ends on Christmas Eve. To sign up as a bell ringer, go online to registertoring.com.
