Once again, a holiday is spurring a lot of travel across the country.
AAA expects almost 120 million travelers nationwide will travel at least 50 miles between Thursday and the end of the year. The total is up 3 million travelers from last year’s holiday season. Nearly 90 percent nationwide are traveling by car, and that percentage actually increases slightly in Kansas.
AAA Kansas Manager of Public and Government Affairs Shawn Steward says part of the increase this time is being driven — pun intended — by lower gas prices.
Air travel is projected to be up almost 5 percent, while other modes of transportation — bus, train and cruise — could be up almost 10 percent.
Steward always suggests making sure your vehicles are road-ready with an emergency kit included. He also suggests driving when refreshed and alert, as well as driving at the speed limit.
