Criminal justice entities in Lyon, Coffey and Morris counties are receiving federal funds to continue their work.
Fifth Judicial District Community Corrections is receiving $40,000 through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program. The Coffey County Sheriff’s Office is receiving $71,000, while the Morris County Sheriff’s Office is receiving almost $84,000.
So-called JAG funds help local and state agencies with programs designed to reduce or prevent criminal activity. They can also help offset costs for equipment and technology needs while offering crime victim services. The overall goal is to make communities more safe while improving criminal justice systems.
Federal funds coming to Kansas are overseen by the Kansas Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. Nearly $2 million was awarded to 26 entities through this round of funding.
