Measurable precipitation has been hard to come by this month, but that trend hasn’t impacted the US Drought Monitor for the KVOE listening area.
This week’s report indicates abnormally dry conditions for most of the area. The south half of Chase County is the exception because it is currently drought-free.
The current map resembles the weekly updates since Thanksgiving.
Aside from the drizzle, mist and light rain Thursday, leading to 0.10 inches of rain or less areawide, there has been no measurable precipitation at all in December. At the KVOE studios, the last measurable amount had been 0.05 inches Nov. 27. The most recent heavy rainfall was 1.50 inches Nov. 18.
Mainly dry conditions are expected through at least early January.
