Following a lot of foundational work this year, Southwick House Executive Director Susan Brinkman wants to begin actual construction before next year is out.
The overall goal is $3.6 million for property at 115 East Logan, and Brinkman says around a third of that amount has been raised. That work is ongoing, in part through a significant grant-writing push.
Brinkman and Board Chair Jeremy Dorsey joined KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Friday for an update. Dorsey says the property was the right location for what Southwick House needs to build.
Southwick House is building on the transitional housing foundation Plumb Place used to serve women in crisis situations for 100 years before it ended operations at the end of 2020. The Southwick House model is different because it allows for families as large as four people or single parents to have a stable setting for relaunching their lives.
Besides a successful Turkey Day Dash on Thanksgiving, which generated over $5,000, Brinkman says there are conversations with Regal Plumb owner Chris Stanley about a special Founder’s Day event at at date and time to be announced. Now a bed and breakfast, the Regal Plumb is the current name of what used to be Plumb Place.
