Residents of all ages welcomed in the new year at the Emporia Public Library at the stroke of. . . . noon.
That’s right, at noon on New Year’s Eve, the Emporia Public Library held a balloon drop to celebrate the end of 2024 and the coming of 2025. For those who think the library’s clocks may have been running a bit fast, we assure you they were right on time as the library was hosting its first Noon-Year’s Eve party.
The event was created and catered to residents who either choose not to or typically cannot stay up til midnight to ring in the new year like most according to Library Children Services Coordinator Gloria Jurado. In addition to the balloon drop in the library’s atrium, the event included games, a scavenger hunt, prizes and crafts.
Jurado says these activities were not only engaging they also engaged children’s cognitive, social and literary learning skills. Jurado says she always tries to combine fun and education with any event they do.
Youth Services Librarian Megan Love says the event was a perfect balance of fun and education, a balance she says is especially important for younger learners.
Noon Year’s Eve capped off an exciting year of activities for the library and will propel into 2025 which promises to have a great mix of both new and classic programming on the calendar.
