DUI arrests were steady from last year and speed citations dropped in the Kansas Highway Patrol’s Christmas holiday enforcement period.
The agency’s Holiday Activity Report indicates seven total DUI arrests for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, level with last year and down from 16 two years ago. Also, there were no fatal DUI crashes for the third straight year.
Speed citations were down considerably, with 227 reported this year, 370 last year and over 400 two years ago. While safety belt citations were down for both adults and teenagers, warnings were up for adults and level for teenagers.
The Highway Patrol and numerous other law enforcement agencies at the local and county level are well into the New Year’s Taking Down DUI effort now underway through Thursday.
