USD 421 Lyndon has a special meeting set for Thursday.
Board members currently have two executive sessions planned, including one for non-elected personnel and pertaining to Kansas Open Meetings Act privacy protections. The other deals with legal counsel.
Following the executive sessions, board members will discuss unspecified employment matters, as well as strategic planning, help with a new superintendent search and reviews of unspecified policies before adjournment.
How this connects to the situation revolving around longtime superintendent and administrator Brad Marcotte has not been stated. Marcotte was arrested in mid-October on suspicion of child endangerment and interference with law enforcement after allegedly drinking alcohol before operating a school bus, but Special Prosecutor Jack Hobbs decided against filing charges, saying there was insufficient evidence in the case. The USD 421 Board of Education put Marcotte on unpaid administrative leave and voted to terminate his contract, but Marcotte appealed and a hearing date has not been announced. Paul Dorathy has been serving as interim superintendent since early November.
Thursday’s special meeting for USD 421 is at 6 pm at the district board room in Lyndon.
