The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks is encouraging people to get out into nature as part of the New Year’s Day activities.
Once again, Wildlife and Parks is touting its First Day Hike opportunities at state parks. These are guided hikes organized every year by park staffers. In Kansas alone, there are almost 25 different planned hikes, including the following area locations:
*Flint Hills Trail State Park. The walk begins at 9 am at the Council Grove Trailhead, Seventh and Walnut. Participants are also encouraged to bring a bike to ride down the trail if they choose.
*Fall River State Park. This walk begins at 1 pm along the Catclaw Trail, starting at the Quarry Bay Bathhouse area.
Wildlife and Parks says people enjoying hikes should bring several items, including water, snacks, weather-appropriate clothes, hiking shoes, binoculars, a hiking stick and a camera.
Participants are also reminded a vehicle permit will be required at all state park entrances. A daily permit is available at $5 at each park.
