One area high school football standout will be playing in the Kansas Shrine Bowl in Dodge City this June.
Council Grove’s Ace Monihen was selected to play for the West team in the Shrine Bowl. Monihen helped the Braves to an 8-4 record and an appearance in a Class 2A Sub-State Championship game against Nemaha Central. Monihen was a first-team All-Flint Hills League pick at running back and defensive line and a second-team selection as a punter. Monihen was a first-team Sports In Kansas Top 100 Seniors 3A and below, a first-team defensive/flex selection in Class 2A from KSHSAA Covered, first-team running back in 2A from The Wichita Eagle, first-team defensive back in 2A from Sports In Kansas and was a finalist for 2A Offensive Player of the Year from Sports In Kansas. Monihen’s coach Butch Hayes was announced to be an assistant for the West team last month.
