A pickup truck was destroyed by fire as it traveled near Emporia on Thursday.
An emergency call was placed around 9:30 am after the incident developed near Interstate 35’s Road U exit. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says the unnamed driver was southbound when the truck lost power. The driver got out to check the situation and found flames coming from the hood.
When firefighters arrived, the truck was fully involved in flames and had caused a small grass fire nearby. Emporia Fire put both fires out, but not before the truck was destroyed.
The fire’s cause is undetermined. There were no injuries reported.

Emporia Fire has responded to a fire call just east of Emporia on Thursday morning.
Crews and Lyon County deputies were dispatched to Interstate 35 mile marker 138 southbound, or the Road U exit, around 9:30 am. Early indications are a pickup caught fire and the blaze spread to nearby grass.
