Veterans accessing services online through the Department of Veterans Affairs Eastern Kansas Health Care System are being advised of some changes.
Shawn Hoffman, the region’s “My Health eVet Guy,” says the adjustments move veterans to a more secure, more streamlined online experience by the end of the month.
Hoffman also says this move will both protect veterans’ data and meet federal security benchmarks.
Veterans need to create an account, using login.gov or ID.me. They then need to follow the online prompts to verify their identity and also enable a multi-step authentication process.
Veterans may already have an account. Hoffman says veterans should create an account through the new setup and the system will recognize a prior online account.
Veterans who don’t change over by Jan. 31 will find their access to secure messaging, prescription refills, appointment scheduling and disability claims restricted until they make the change.
Step-by-step instructions are online at va.gov/sign-in-changes. Veterans can also visit their local VA facility for guidance or they can call 800-698-2411. Hoffman’s direct number is 913-946-1640.
