Winter is normally a busy time for the Emporia Rescue Mission, and that certainly applies this season.
Administrator Josh Graves says the men’s shelter near 12th and Burlingame is full. He’s asking the community to help the men at the shelter — and those who want to stay but can’t because of space constraints.
The shelter offers three different programs, a 30-day stay for temporary homelessness, a 90-day stay for men working while saving money for rents and deposits and a Christ-centered transformational life coaching option. Men must be from Emporia, released from the Lyon County Jail or released to the local parole office. They must also be cleared of warrants before they are cleared to stay.
Meanwhile, Shiloh Home of Hope/Family Life Services of Emporia is also nearly full. Graves says Shiloh helps expecting mothers or moms with young children.
Shiloh has a residential ministry mission and a pregnancy mission, both designed to guide women in a Christ-centered environment.
Residents wanting to donate to the Mission can bring items to the facility at 1236 East 12th or Abundant Harvest at 1028 Whittier. Residents wanting to donate to Shiloh can bring items to the facility at 615 Congress.
