Property matters are a featured point for the USD 253 Emporia Board of Education at its meeting this week.
Board members will get the latest information about structural concerns at the district’s administrative offices, Mary Herbert Education Center. Last month, Director of Maintenance and Grounds Cory Nicolet mentioned sinking in the southwest corner of the building, leading to structural concerns for the entire facility and the prospect of a $1 million repair bill, if not more.
Also during the regular meeting, board members will get the latest Building for the Future update from McCownGordon Construction. William Allen White, the final school as part of the nearly $80 million bond package approved five years ago, is now 85 percent complete.
Acquisition of unspecified property is one of two executive sessions, with the other being for attorney consultation.
Other regular agenda items include a presentation on accreditation versus school improvement and a fiscal year 2024 audit.
Wednesday’s meeting starts at 6 pm at Mary Herbert.
