Investigations continue in Chase County after a pair of destructive fires over the last week near Cedar Point, including one that killed several birds.
Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh says fire developed in a chicken coop in the 1000 block of C Road around 9:45 am Jan. 8. The fire destroyed the coop and also killed an estimated 30 birds, although a goose, two chickens and three ducks survived.
The second fire developed shortly before 7 am Friday in the 800 block of J Road, destroying a vacant house.
Causes for both fires are currently pending. No people were hurt with either fire.
Weather conditions were clear but cold this past Wednesday, with air temperatures in the single digits at the time of the house fire. Conditions weren’t much better Friday morning after up to 3 inches of snowfall.
