USD 253 Emporia Public Schools says it has been reviewing security protocols since the recent data breach of PowerSchool.
That’s according to USD 253 Director of Communications Lyndel Landgren who sent an email to KVOE News following inquiries into the district’s response to the situation which was discovered this past Wednesday. Since the breach, Landgren says the district has “reviewed our security protocols with PowerSchool to ensure they align with our best practices.”
Landgren stated it was important to know that the breach did not “compromise passwords” as all staff and student accounts use Google Single Sign-On and staff who may have access to “sensitive data are required to use multi-factor authentication” which are meant to help safeguard accounts from unauthorized access. Landgren also says that PowerSchool has reportedly resolved the issue and is working with CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm headquarterd in Austin, Texas to prevent similar breaches in the future.
