In November, USD 421 Lyndon Interim Superintendent Paul Dorathy was retired and he plans to return to retirement once his time with the district concludes.
While he has thoroughly enjoyed his retirement the past few years, Dorathy says that when Lyndon “needed help” following the arrest and later termination of former Superintendent Brad Marcotte in October, he knew he had the time and availability to lend said help and agreed to step into the interim position. While he is a new face for USD 421 Lyndon, Dorathy is no stranger to the local community having spent a great deal of his nearly 40-year career in education with local school districts.
This includes time as a teacher, assistant principal and coach at USD 253 Emporia and as a principal at Olpe Junior-Senior High School. Dorathy also led USD 348 Baldwin City for 16 years before retiring in 2022.
Dorathy says throughout his career there have been many changes and evolutions specifically when it comes to technology and demands on accountability in the realm of education.
Dorathy says throughout his nearly 40 year career there have been many changes and evolutions specifically when it comes to technology and demands on accountability in the realm of education.
While his tenure will only last until June, Dorathy certainly has a full plate ahead of him.
Much of Dorathy’s nearly four-decade career in education was spent in the local area as he served as a teacher, assistant principal and coach at USD 253 Emporia and as a principal at Olpe Junior-Senior High School. Dorathy also led USD 348 Baldwin City for 16 years before retiring in 2022.
Dorathy’s interview Wednesday follows the finalization of a separation agreement between Marcotte and USD 421 as part of a special meeting two weeks ago. Marcotte was arrested in mid-October on suspicion of child endangerment and interference with law enforcement after allegedly drinking alcohol before operating a school bus, but Special Prosecutor Jack Hobbs decided against filing charges, saying there was insufficient evidence in the case.
The USD 421 Board of Education put Marcotte on unpaid administrative leave and voted to terminate his contract, but Marcotte appealed.
