State funding is confirmed for an Emporia hike-and-bike path project.
The Kansas Department of Transportation has approved a $575,000 bid from Multicon, Inc, of Park City to lead the work on West 24th from Prairie to Lincoln as well as East 12th from Whittier to the Emporia Rescue Mission just east of Burlingame Road. This also includes Burlingame from East 12th to Riley.
This project has been in the works for at least two years, thanks to a partnership involving the city of Emporia and Healthier Lyon County. Construction could tentatively begin this spring.
Separately, KDOT approved four projects for Osage County as part of its latest bid authorizations:
*US Highway 75 will have a mill-and-overlay project from near Jordan Road on the east side of Melvern Lake to near the Kansas Highway 68 junction, or over five miles. APAC-Shears of Hutchinson won the project with a nearly $1.5 million bid.
*Kansas Highway 268 will have a separate mill-and-overlay process from just east of the US-75 junction to the K-68 junction, or over 9 miles of construction. APAC-Shears of Hutchinson won this project with a better than $2.1 million bid.
*Kansas Highway 276 has milling and overlay work ahead from Olivet’s east city limits to the US-75 junction, or less than 2 miles. APAC-Shears is the main contractor after a nearly $370,000 bid.
*Kansas Highway 278 will see about 3 miles of milling and overlay from the Melvern Lake recreational area to the US-75 intersection. APAC-Shears will be the main contractor after a better than $380,000 bid.
