USD 386 Madison Virgil is seeking a new superintendent following the end of the current academic year.
Tammy Baird, who has served as the district’s superintendent since 2023, recently announced she will retire at the end of the school year. KVOE News spoke with Baird Wednesday and asked what made now the right time to step aside.
Baird says there was no one thing, she’s simply ready to move on to the next phase of her life. Baird replaced Steve Jowers as superintendent as Jowers left USD 386 in the summer of 2023 to take on the superintendent role at USD 448 Inman. Before becoming superintendent, Baird served as the principal for Madison-Virgil Junior Senior High School from 2021 to 2023.
Before her time with USD 386, Baird spent several years with USD 454 Burlingame where she served in several capacities as part of a better than 35-year career in education. Baird called her career the “best journey she never planned.”
As for what’s ahead, Baird says much like her decision to enter education, she has no definite plans for the future.
USD 386 Board President Dallas Luthi spoke with KVOE News Wednesday and stated the search for Baird’s replacement will begin immediately. Luthi also thanked Baird for her time with the district saying “Tammy was great, we will miss her and we are sad to see her leave.”
