Several area businesses are benefiting from federal dollars to bolster energy efficiency and create clean energy.
USDA Director for Kansas Rural Development Christy Davis announced numerous investments through the Rural Energy for America Program, or REAP, including the following projects:
*Council Grove’s 502 Lofts LLCA gets over $45,000 in grant funding to buy and install a nearly 24 kilowatt solar system. The new system could generate over 36,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, enough to power three houses.
*Overbrook’s Varekai Holidings gets a nearly $36,000 grant for a smaller solar system, over 18 kilowatts. This will create enough power for two homes per year.
*Overbrook’s Kimberly Stahel BDA Shirts and Such is getting a nearly $58,000 grant to buy a better than 19 kilowatt solar system as well as a 37 kilowatt battery backup. This will power two homes per year.
Nearly $6 million is being invested in projects across Kansas as part of this announcement.
