The Emporia High girls wrestling team finished fifth at the Newton Tournament of Champions which wrapped up on Thursday.
Emporia High had two wrestlers make it to championship matches in their respective weight classes. Alexa Castillo took first at 235 by pinning McPherson’s Ciara Rawson in 2 minutes and 58 seconds. Kensley Medrano finished second at 120 losing by fall to Tonganoxie’s Autumn Wilson at 2 minutes and 58 seconds. Also placing for Emporia High were Heily Batres, sixth at 115; Yaneli Carranza, third at 145; and Gabby Duarte, sixth at 190.
Emporia High will next be in action on January 25 at Olathe South.
