One might think eight-plus inches of snowfall and half-an-inch or more of ice earlier this month would have had some positive impact on the US Drought Monitor. That is not the case.
There was virtually no change in the Drought Monitor map from Jan. 9 to Thursday — and, in fact, there has barely been any movement now for two solid months. The southern two-thirds of Chase County is drought-free, but the rest of the KVOE listening area, including all of Lyon County, is abnormally dry.
No measurable precipitation is currently in the forecast for at least a week.
