Sharply colder air is coming our way.
National Weather Service meteorologist Chelsea Picha says air temperatures in the 40s Friday will be replaced by wind chills around zero by early Saturday. Air temperatures in the mid-20s Saturday will be followed by highs in the teens Sunday and Monday, with wind chills below zero at night and air temperatures below zero Monday night.
Picha encourages people to dress in layers and to check on young and old alike as the cold snap continues. The Weather Service also encourages people to make sure their furnaces and heaters are working properly as temperatures dip.
High temperatures improve as the week continues next week, but highs won’t get above the mid-30s through at least Thursday. High temperatures Friday should help the ongoing melting process from a total of 8-plus inches of snow and up to half an inch of ice from two rounds of winter weather earlier this month, but the snowpack likely won’t be completely melted by the time the cold air returns this weekend.
