Once again, Healthier Lyon County is a partner with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas for the insurance company’s Pathways to a Healthy Kansas program.
This is the third phase of the Pathways program, and Healthier Lyon County has fostered several improvements as part of 20-plus grants during the first two phases:
*Lyon County Fairgrounds walking trail
*New sidewalks and school crosswalks
*Garden project at Presbyterian Manor
*Multi-use court in Admire
*Expended access to health food in childcare settings, grocery stores, food pantries, restaurants and rural farmers markets
Healthier Lyon County’s tentative plans for Phase 3 funding include promoting so-called Family Friendly Workplace environments to bolster employee and family wellness, increase physical activity for youths and advocating for healthy food policies as a way to improve food access and nutrition quality.
For being a Pathway community, Healthier Lyon County gets “coordination assistance” from Blue Cross Blue Shield. Healthier Lyon County and other Lyon County organizations can also apply for non-competitive grants that will help Healthier Lyon County’s stated Phase 3 goals.
