You may have noticed an increase in gas prices locally — and not just a small one.
Depending on the location, gas prices have jumped 20-30 cents over the last 10 days, with prices now between $2.77 and $2.89 a gallon. Domestic demand has been low, as it typically is during the winter months. Kansas AAA Manager of Public and Government Affairs Shawn Steward says this is a global issue.
Gas prices had been around $2.55-$2.60 a gallon for at least two months.
Steward says there are several things drivers can do for their vehicles and their checkbook, including regular car maintenance, keeping tires properly inflated, shopping around, leveraging gas discounts, ensuring you are using the proper octane level for your vehicle and avoiding idling.
