The Olpe basketball teams swept Madison in a makeup doubleheader on Thursday in Madison.
The Olpe girls handed Madison a second consecutive loss with a 48-34 victory over the Lady Bulldogs. Lilly Skalsky led the way with 17 for Olpe. Jalynn Weakley with 13 for Madison. Olpe is now 8-2 on the season and 5-1 in the Lyon County League. Madison dropped to 8-2 and 4-2 in the Lyon County League. An Olpe win over Burlingame on Friday will give the Eagles a share of the Lyon County League regular season championship but they would be the No. 2 seed in next week’s Lyon County League Tournament with Lebo having the head-to-head over Olpe.
The Olpe boys defeated the Bulldogs, 44-36. Dexton Hoelting led the way with 16 for Olpe. Octavian Dean led the way for Madison with 16. Olpe coach Chris Schmidt said the Eagles did everything right to earn the win.
Olpe is now 9-1 and 6-0 in the Lyon County League. Madison is now 6-4 and 4-2 in the Lyon County League. Olpe will meet Burlingame on Friday for a makeup doubleheader. The winner of the boys game will clinch an outright Lyon County League regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in next week’s Lyon County League Tournament. Other Lyon County League scores from Thursday night: MdCV and Burlingame split with the Lady Trojans defeating the Lady Bearcats, 72-55, while Burlingame took the boys game, 59-25. Lebo swept Waverly, winning the boys game, 50-22 and the girls game, 52-24. Hartford swept Northern Heights, 60-32 in the girls game and 65-52 in the boys game.
