New Strawn city leadership is alerting residents a boil water advisory is now underway after a water main break Sunday.
The town noted a water main break around 8 am and reported completed repairs after noon. The location hasn’t been specified but was apparently in the city limits. The town also says there was a total loss of water pressure as a result.
Water samples will go to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment in Topeka on Monday. Until water samples are tested and deemed safe for normal use, New Strawn residents are told to take the following steps:
*Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food prep or use bottled water.
*Do not use ice from a household auto icemaker.
*If tap water appears dirty, flush lines by letting the water run until it clears.
*Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.
