Emporia’s Flying J travel plaza has marked a “top-to-bottom” renovation with a significant financial donation to an Emporia High School project.
The Emporia project is part of Pilot Flying J’s $1 billion New Horizons process to renovate over 400 travel plazas nationwide, including new technology, updated restrooms and showers and modernized interior spaces.
The Emporia Flying J at 4215 West US Highway 50 offers fuel for passenger vehicles and semis, as well as semi parking spaces, a driver lounge, showers, public laundry, wireless internet, bulk and cylinder propane and other features.
Pilot Flying J has donated $10,000 to Emporia High’s retention pond revitalization project, with the donation approved at the Jan. 8 school board meeting. The revitalization project for the pond near Pizza Ranch has an initial cost of around $40,000 and was approved by the USD 253 board in August 2024.
