Chase County deputies say they have arrested a man for an outstanding drug-related warrant.
The Sheriff’s Office says it arrested 33-year-old John Deem outside the Chase County Courthouse in Cottonwood Falls, following an active warrant for distributing unspecified narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school. Deem was in his vehicle at the time of his arrest, and deputies say a warrant search of the car led to the discovery of an unlisted amount of methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
Deem has a preliminary hearing Feb. 10 on charges of distribution and conspiracy after allegedly possessing buprenorphine hydrochloride and naloxone hydrochloride, used to prevent opioid withdrawal symptoms. He has a separate preliminary hearing the same day in the possession case.
A co-defendant in the distribution and conspiracy case, Natascha Jones, has a pretrial hearing tentatively set for March 10.
