The Emporia State baseball team scored the first three and the last four runs of the game on the way to a 7-4 victory over MSU Denver to open up the 2025 season at the Edmond First Pitch Tournament in Edmond, Okla. on Friday morning. The Hornets started the season with a bang getting back-to-back two-out home runs in the first inning from T. J. Racherbaumer and Noah Steele. In the second inning, Dylan Brisbois went yard to add to the lead, but the Hornets gave up four Roadrunner runs to trail 4-3 after five. The Hornets retook the lead with small ball getting a sacrifice fly and RBI singles from Steele, Brisbois, and Jovanni Toledo to take the win. Trent Warstler went 4.2 innings and gave up six hits and four runs for a no decision, but the Hornet bullpen tossed 4.1 innings of shutout relief. Graeme Rios (1-0) scattered three hits in his three innings to earn the win while Ian Lanik picked up his first save of the year. The Hornets play Southeastern Oklahoma State Saturday and East Central on Sunday.
