The Emporia High basketball teams split at Topeka High on Tuesday night. Topeka High won the girls game, 65-29, while the Spartans won the boys game, 65-42.
In the boys game, the Spartans trailed 3-0 before going on a 12-0 run en route to an 18-12 lead after the first quarter. Emporia High led 33-25 at halftime and increased its lead to double digits in the third quarter and never looked back. Nolan Jacob led Emporia High with a career-high 21 points while Rylan Crowell recorded a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Emporia High coach Lee Baldwin said the Spartans locked down defensively in the second half.
Emporia High’s winning streak extends to four with a 9-4 record and a 2-1 mark in Centennial League play.
In the girls game, it was all Topeka High, starting the game by scoring the first 18 points and never looking back, leading 35-12 at the half and led 57-25 after three quarters triggering a running clock in the fourth quarter. Maycee Davis led Emporia High with nine points. Emporia High coach Taylor Scott said Topeka High’s early run set the tone of the game.
Emporia High is now 2-11, 0-3 in the Centennial League. Both teams return home on Friday for Winter Sports Night hosting Manhattan. The RV-Doc Pregame Show is set for 5:45 p.m. on KVOE.
