The Women’s Life Center at Newman Regional Health was extremely busy last month.
How busy? The team delivered 41 babies, the facility’s biggest monthly total since July 2019. Women’s Life Center Director of Nursing Bobby Johnson thanked her staff for making sure mothers and children got the best medical care possible.
Johnson says January is typically a slower month, with more babies typically born in July and September. A normal month includes 25-30 babies delivered.
The increase in deliveries last month came as NRH transitioned OB/GYN physicians Deshala Castile and Christina Faulkner on board from their prior practice at Stormont Vail.
Newman Regional Health is also into late-stage planning for the Lyon County Community Baby Shower, which will be March 3 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building. New and expecting mothers can register online at newmanrh.org/events/babyshower.

Last month, the Women’s Life Center at Newman Regional Health had a month the likes of which it hadn’t seen in over five years.
Newman Regional Health delivered 41 babies. The last time the hospital delivered over 40 children was July 2019. The typical monthly number is between 25-30, according to NRH Women’s Life Center Director of Nursing Bobby Johnson.
“Welcoming 41 babies, including a set of twins, is well above our average,” Johnson said. “This surge in births, combined with the transition of our OB/GYN team, presented some unique challenges. However, thanks to all the amazing teamwork and dedication of our staff, we were able to provide exceptional care for every mother and baby. We couldn’t have done it without the entire team.”
