The United Way of the Flint Hills gets a lot of attention for its annual fundraising drive, but it is heavily involved in several community improvement goals.
Mertens highlighted the United Way’s work to reduce homelessness during KVOE’s Talk of Emporia this week.
Crediting former CEO Mickey Edwards for starting the effort, Mertens says the United Way has been hard at work the last few years.
The United Way has also been working to reduce food insecurity, an effort magnified by bringing Healthier Lyon County on board as a Community Partner.
The United Way is gearing up for its now-annual KVOE Live Morning Drive Radio Auction the first week of March. It’s also gearing up for its involvement in the Flint Hills Gravel Ride and Run on April 12, as well as a brand-new e-sports tournament through Emporia State University this spring.
