The Emporia State softball team went 1-1 at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic in Bentonville, Ark. on Friday.
In the morning session, Truman State used two big innings to split their season series with the Lady Hornets with a 7-4 victory. ESU’s former MIAA rival scored three in the first and three in the sixth to avenge a loss to E-State last weekend. ESU had tied the game at four in the top of the sixth before the late Bulldog burst. Sydney Wagner went 2-for-5 with two runs while Brooke Flewelling had an RBI triple. The Lady Hornets booted three balls for errors and just one of Truman State’s runs was earned. Gracie Rabe (2-2) took the loss despite not giving up an earned run in three innings.
In their afternoon matinee, ESU scored the last five runs of the game to beat William Jewell 5-1. Starting pitcher Jordan Harrison (2-0) gave up a solo shot in the fourth but that was it for Jewell as she went the distance for a complete game victory with six strikeouts. Wagner had another multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with two more RBIs while Leslie Ramos drove in a pair for the Black & Gold.
ESU returns to action Saturday face Texas-Tyler and Arkansas-Monticello. ESU will wrap up the event Sunday with Missouri-St. Louis and Southern Arkansas.
