Burton was tentatively set for trial last month, but trial was reset to May 19 following a status conference Monday afternoon.
Burton faces single counts of rape and aggravated indecent liberties involving a child under the age of 14.

There has been another delay in trial proceedings for Emporian John Burton in Wichita.
Burton was tentatively set for trial last month, but trial was canceled and replaced with a status conference Monday afternoon. This follows Judge Jeff Goering’s decision to not allow Burton’s motion for a new defense attorney shortly before trial was set to begin.
Burton was charged in June 2023. He faces single counts of rape and aggravated indecent liberties involving a child under the age of 14.
