Moderate snow totals are still likely for the KVOE listening area between Tuesday night and Wednesday evening.
Winter storm warnings begin later for area counties:
*Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties are involved from 12 am to 6 pm Wednesday. Between 5-7 inches of snowfall is expected
*Morris and Wabaunsee counties are in a warning from 9 pm Tuesday to 6 pm Wednesday. Between 5-9 inches of snow are expected
*Chase County is in a warning from 6 pm Tuesday to 6 pm Wednesday. Between 4-6 inches of snow is expected
Greenwood County remains in a winter storm watch from 6 pm Tuesday to 6 pm Wednesday. Between 2-5 inches of snow is possible.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says travel conditions will not be good — especially Wednesday, with a combination of powdery snowfall and northerly wind gusts up to 30 mph.
Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods says crews are ready to attack the incoming snow and wind until this winter storm clears the area. He wants drivers to be ready — first off by not driving unless absolutely necessary and second off by giving snowplow drivers ample space.
Emporia Public Works Director Dean Grant says this will be a different situation from the storm Jan. 4-5 that brought ice, snow and bitter cold to the area.

City Manager Trey Cocking has mentioned some possible changes to snow removal policy, maybe including routes, personnel and equipment, as part of last week’s Q&A with City Officials public meeting. Grant says Public Works is planning a conversation with Emporia city commissioners as part of the meeting schedule next week, but there likely won’t be any large-scale changes in snow removal plans this week.
5:30 am Tuesday: Winter storm warnings now cover most area counties beginning Tuesday evening
Area residents are told to brace for a winter storm coming this way by Tuesday evening.
The National Weather Service offices in Topeka and Wichita have now issued several winter storm warnings for area counties:
*Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties are involved from 12 am to 6 pm Wednesday. Between 5-7 inches of snowfall is expected
