Chase County girls, Madison boys pick up wins in final regular season Area Game of the Week

Chase County and Madison squared off in the “Battle of the Bulldogs” on Monday and played to a split of the doubleheader.

Chase County and Madison traded blows in the first half during the girls contest. Chase County held a six point lead at the half, while their leading scorer, Madelyn Wilson, was held to two points during that time. Madison would continue to hold Wilson in check, as they battled back from an 11 point deficit to force overtime, 36-36, much in part to Jalynn Weakley and Jenna Thomsen seeing their shots fall. Wilson would catch fire in the extra time, adding 6 points, and Chase County survived 45-40. Wilson led all scorers with 14, and Avery Beyer and Lynnae Rains each added 11 to aid Chase County. Chase County Head Coach Clayton Happy was pleased how his team weathered the comeback.

Thomsen and Weakley led Madison with 12 each.

The boys game saw an almost identical affair to the game that preceded them, with each team going back and forth in the first half.

Wyatt Griffin and Colton Isch, each team’s leading scorers, struggled in the first half, with Chase County holding a small lead of 19-18 at the break.

Isch would respond in the third quarter however, as he scored 12 points in the frame, helping Madison build a 37-28 lead.

Griffin would respond with his own 14 points in the final frame, as Chase County erased an 11 point deficit as they tied the game at 46-46 in the final moments, before Madison escaped with a 48-46 victory.

Madison was led in scoring by Colton Isch with 20 points.

Alex McNeal, Head Coach of Madison, expressed how good of a player Isch can be.

Griffin led Chase County with 22 points.
