Emporia city commissioners are planning to meet Wednesday.
In their action session, commissioners plan to declare their intent to enter into both a base lease and project lease between the city and the city’s Public Building Commission on financing the new downtown Fire Department headquarters, currently under construction, as well as design fees for both the new headquarters and Station 2 at 15th and Industrial. This will follow a brief meeting by the PBC at 11 am to discuss authorizing and issuing Revenue Bonds for the overall project.
Commissioners could also approve rezoning of several properties on Michelle Circle and Michelle Street to reflect new zoning classifications, as well as a final plat for the XRS Pros homes addition in south Emporia and the fiscal 2027 CCLIP agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation for work on Commercial from Third to 12th and Sixth from Mechanic to Neosho.
The study meeting to follow includes conversations about 2024 finances, a review of transient guest tax appropriations processes, funding for Flint Hills Technical College and the 2025 Street Rehab project.
The City Commission meeting schedule begins at 11:15 am Wednesday at the Municipal Court Room, with the study meeting at City Conference Room 1AB.
