Emporia Public Schools is going full-speed into its search for a new superintendent.
USD 253 has announced two opportunities for the public to get involved, both of which are currently underway:
*The Kansas Association of School Boards, along with the district, has an online survey available through Feb. 24. The survey is designed to help the district learn desired characteristics in a new superintendent. USD 253 says the survey should take five minutes to complete. Click here for the survey.
*Also, KASB is conducting what it calls “characteristic focus-group sessions” to determine recommended qualities for the new district leader. These sessions will take place with community members and representatives of students, faculty and administrators. People interested in participating should email casey.jones@usd253.net by 9 am Thursday.
Allison Anderson-Harder, the district superintendent since 2021, has announced her retirement effective June 30 after an education career spanning over 30 years, including 28 with USD 253. Between now and April 7, the target date for naming a new superintendent, KASB will recommend a list of desired characteristics by March 5. Completed applications will be due to KASB by March 19, with interviews in late March and early April.
