When USD 284 Chase County announced its schedule for superintendent candidate interviews last week, Board Chair Mike Spinden initially mentioned a decision by Friday. After the second interview Thursday night, the board decided not to wait that long.
Board members have chosen Aron Dody as superintendent to replace Glenna Grinstead, who is retiring in June.
Dody is familiar with the area, serving as a math teacher at Emporia High before becoming a principal at Americus Elementary and North Lyon County Junior High in 2008 and ultimately serving as USD 251’s superintendent from 2014-2018. Dody then served as USD 417 Morris County’s superintendent from 2018-2023.
After separating from USD 417, Dody had been serving as an educational consultant with Southeast Kansas Education Service Center.
The Chase County board had also interviewed USD 387 Altoona-Midway Superintendent John West. The board had a third interview tentatively scheduled but that candidate withdrew.
