The Emporia State baseball team jumped all over Pittsburg State and salvaged the third game of their MIAA opening series 11-7 on Monday in Pittsburg. After struggling with the bats through the first two games of the series, the Hornets lit up the Gorillas on the way to an 8-0 lead through the top of the third. PSU roared back with five in the third, but E-State broke through again with three in the top of the sixth and dashed the Gorillas’ comeback attempts late. The offensive onslaught was highlighted by a grand slam home run by Logan Myers while Dominic Felix also went yard as part of a 4-for-5 day. The Hornets (5-5, 1-2 MIAA) will try to celebrate Opening Day for the second time this season on Friday at the Trusler Sports Complex when they begin a three-game series with Central Oklahoma. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
