Sunlight glare is listed as a contributing factor to an injury crash near Bushong early Tuesday evening.
Lyon County deputies, Emporia Fire/EMS and Allen-Admire Fire District 2 first responders were all dispatched to the intersection of US Highway 56 and Lyon County Road F, or Americus Road, after a two-vehicle wreck was reported just after 5:15 pm. Deputy Dylan Jacobs says a car driven by 75-year-old Linda Price of Council Grove was on Road F and yielded to the stop sign before turning westbound onto US-56. Price apparently didn’t see an eastbound minivan driven by 45-year-old Eber Duarte-Perez of Emporia and the two vehicles collided.
Duarte-Perez was taken to Newman Regional Health in what Jacobs calls stable condition. The Duarte-Perez vehicle had five passengers but none approved transport to a hospital. Price was treated on site and declined a hospital trip.
The intersection was briefly blocked due to the initial medical response and early crash investigation work. Deputies are still investigating.
