Renovation work at a downtown Emporia address is set to move forward after significant grant funding was announced this week.
The Kansas Department of Commerce has approved $300,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding for renovation work at 417 Commercial. Grant funding will help to renovate the building, including roof and gutter replacement, wall stabilization, floor enhancements, window enhancements and new or additional fire sprinkler line installations.
Emporia Main Street Casey Woods has more information:
A local investment group is looking at first-floor commercial space and upper-story living space. Woods also says both the first floor and storefront will be retrofitted to historic standards, clearing the way for the project to possibly get more funds. The grant is also contingent on a nearly $120,000 local match.
The building currently houses several businesses, including Affordable Integrative Functional Medicine, Grave Decision Escapes, iDeviceHQ LLC, Phoenix Developmental Services and Revive & Thrive Mental Health Clinic.
Separately, the city of Eureka received a nearly $420,000 grant for housing rehabilitation. That grant will invest money for repairs and enhancements for an unspecified amount of low- to moderate-income homes. That grant is connected to a nearly $185,000 local match.
